When he played infield for the Mississauga Majors, JD (Action) Jackson was known for two things:

1) Routine ground balls hit his way were automatic outs at Martin Dobkin Field.

2) Hitting a ball into the gap at a road game and proclaiming to his bench “That would have been out of Dobbie.”

Irving moved from Misssissuga to Glenwood Springs High School in Glenwood Springs, Col. where he played for the devilish Demons.

Now the infielder is headed for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers in Glendive, Mont.

From one Glen to another.

Irving batted .423 in 21 games with eight doubles, four homers and 15 RBIs. The speedy lead-off hitter stole 23 bases, walked 12 times, scored 27 times and struck out 12 times in 84 plate appearances with an OPS of  1.193.

Irving is the son of former Toronto Maple Leaf 2B Mike Irving, a veteran Mississauga coach, who played for the Grand Canyon Lopes before that. One year, Irving took his Mississauga Southwest bantam team to the Grand Canyon campus.

After a visit to the book store where Lopes souvenirs were plentiful the team walked outside.

“So coach Mike,” one player asked, “how good was this Mr. Lopes anyway -- his name is on everything.”

Dawson competes in the Mon-Dak Conference along with Miles Community College, Williston State, Bismarck State College, Dakota College at Bottineau, Lake Region State College and North Dakota State College of Science.

He was one of 14 players to be added to our Letters of Intent page. Meanwhile Peter Berryman was a busier man adding 35 players to our 2025 Canadians in College list, which now sits at 1,131... just eight shy of the 2024 total.
