GUELPH, ONT. - The Guelph Royals have signed left-handed pitcher Niall Windeler.

Windeler, 26, joins the Royals after a successful college career that saw him get drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2019.

In college, the Toronto, Ont., native pitched 252 innings for UBC, recording a career ERA of 3.36 to go along with a K/9 of 8.08.

He was then selected in the 19th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Twins, where he pitched in the minors for one season before the COVID-19 pandemic led to a casualty of cuts in the minors.

Windeler has spent the last two summers with East York in the GTBL, where he was named Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in 2023.

Windeler said he is excited to help Guelph take a step in 2025.

"I'm excited to join a great group of guys and a competitive team, and work with an elite pitching coach in Jared Kennedy."

Royals assistant general manager Ryan Eakin said he is thrilled to have Windeler on board.

"Any time you can land a Canadian lefty with pro experience, you do it. We are thrilled to have Niall on board. He knows a lot of guys on the team and will fit in great with our group. A big shoutout to Conner Morro for helping make this happen, too. It just goes to show how determined our leadership group is in getting over the top in 2025."
