The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Skylar Janisse, a 30-year-old who made his London debut last summer after a lengthy career on the Independent League circuit.

In 2023, the Maidstone, Ont., native made the second-most appearances (18) by a Majors pitcher, trailing only fellow reliever Braeden Ferrington. In 31 2/3 innings, Janisse struck out 35. He went 1-1, earned a save and made one start in his first season in a London uniform.

Though he posted a 7.67 ERA on the year, that number was inflated by three specific bad outings – including his one start, where he took his lumps for the team in an eventual 21-10 loss in Toronto. In his 15 other appearances combined, the right-hander’s ERA was a much better 3.28.

A former New York Yankees’ draft pick (35th round) back in 2011, Janisse spent two collegiate seasons (Oklahoma City, NAIA) and an Indy campaign (Salina Stockade, Pecos) as a starting pitcher. He then pitched five more seasons of pro ball primarily out of the bullpen.

“Skylar has lots of professional experience, and he’s a good guy to have in our bullpen,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “He’s a great teammate, and he’s another veteran player that can help lead in the clubhouse and on the field.”

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander is looking for more consistency in the IBL in 2024, and he’s ready to serve in any capacity required of him.

“I’m excited to come back to the Majors in 2024, and I can’t wait to see our amazing fans this summer,” said Janisse. “I think there are some big things brewing. Roop and the organization are putting together the type of squad we need to bring that championship trophy back to London.”
