Official Seattle Mariners News Release

ARLINGTON, Texas — Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:

-Matt Brash, RHP, reinstated from 15-day Injured List (right UCL sprain)

-Troy Taylor, RHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma (post-game May 2)

Brash, 26, has made six appearances on a rehab assignment with triple-A Tacoma, tossing 5 1/3 innings with two walks and five strikeouts. He missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing right elbow surgery in May of last year.

The Kingston, Ont., native had a breakout 2023 season where he went 9–4 with 4 saves, a 3.06 ERA (24 ER, 70 2/3 IP), 29 walks and 107 strikeouts in a club-record tying 78 appearances. He became just the fifth reliever in Mariners history with 100 strikeouts in a season.

The 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher has appeared in parts of two Major League seasons with the Mariners, going 13–8 with a 3.63 ERA, 62 walks and 169 strikeouts in 117 appearances (five starts). He was acquired by the Mariners as the player to be named later on September 17, 2020 to complete the August 31, 2020 trade that sent RHP Taylor Williams to the San Diego Padres. He was originally selected by the Padres in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Niagara (NY).

Taylor, 23, pitched the ninth inning of last night’s win. He has made four appearances with the Mariners this season. He began the season on the 15-day Injured List with a right lat strain.

The 6-foot righty has also made seven appearances with triple-A Tacoma this season, tossing 5 1/3 innings with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Taylor was selected by the Mariners in the 12th round of the 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of University of California-Irvine. He made his Major League debut on Aug. 11, 2024, making 21 relief appearances with Seattle down the stretch. The 6-foot righty went 0–0 with 1 save and a 3.72 ERA with seven walks and 25 strikeouts last season.
