Official Toronto Maple Leafs News Release
TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have appointed Dustin Richardson as general manager, focusing on baseball operations for the upcoming 2025 season.
Richardson, currently a player-coach within the organization, will remain in his role as an active member of the Maple Leafs’ pitching staff while also performing the various duties of the GM. This is a natural progression for him as he’s well respected across the organization, and as GM, he will be able to work closely with the coaching staff and players throughout the season.
“We’re thrilled to bring Dustin into the fold on the player-management side of things. He’s had such a positive impact on this organization ever since joining the team and is thoroughly invested in creating the best possible team on the field. He’s got a baseball mind and loves being here, and that’s something we believe will translate well in this role,” said the team ownership said in a statement.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead such a storied organization,” said Richardson. “The future of this team is bright, and I’m committed to working alongside our coaching staff, front office, and ownership to build a sustainable winner. We will focus on the long-term vision, while also being competitive today.”
The club has had a busy offseason thus far with the signing of several new players. Numerous signings will be announced throughout April, leading up to our home opener on May 11. Toronto's interim GM will move into an assistant role to support Richardson and will continue to focus on signings and the baseball administrative side of the GM duties, allowing Richardson to focus on player recruitment and on-field activities.
